Go Patricia Go!

There's a by-election in the Muncipality of Kings where I live. Our municipal council was recently called "dysfunctional" by outside consultants. They've promised better behaviour but none of us see any discernable difference. It's just been more of the same old, same old. It's not a group many would be inspired to join. Yet, a young woman has the nerve, and the commitment, to want to do that.

First she has to win a by-election on July 23. That means 26 more days of hard work to gather the support of enough electors to put her at the council table.

She's 35-years old. A small fraction of the age of the others on council. The others on council have a small fraction of her smarts.

It sometimes surprizes me that a young mother and full-time organic farmer would have an interest in becoming an elected representative. Many politicans have behaved badly during her lifetime. They all talk about change, but change very little.

I'm thankful that Patricia does have this interest. The best politician I currently know is another young woman who reminds me of Patricia. Megan Leslie is a Member of Parliament here in Canada. Have you worked on young women's campaigns? Do you have any tips or words of encouragement for Patricia?

At least if she wants to "kiss babies" she does have lots of little neices, nephews and friends to bestow her smackers on. And, maybe it's because of the nurturing all these little ones that a mother, with a long term view, and a truly loving nature will enter politics.
